Mildred Mae (Herr) York, 96, Oblong, Illinois and formerly of rural Willow Hill, Illinois has gone to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois and she will be reunited with loved ones that have gone on before.
Mildred was born in the Bend area south of Oblong, Illinois on September 25, 1916, in Jasper County, Illinois to William Henry Herr and Marie Ann Yager Herr. Mildred married Carl Lloyd York, her husband of 33 years, in Newton, Illinois on September 6, 1932, and he preceded her in death on July 26, 1965.
Mildred was a homemaker and farmer with her husband, a long time member of Seed Chapel Church, and Jasper County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting at the Oblong First Christian Church. As an avid gardener, Mildred enjoyed seeing her vegetable and flower gardens grow she also enjoyed raising chickens. She loved her family and her home. She enjoyed touring her corn and bean fields during spring planting, the growing season and during the fall harvest.
Mildred is survived by five generations. Surviving family members are two daughters, Shirley Ann (York) Whitmer and Karla K. (York) Monroe and spouse, Gary; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Jan (Whitmer) & Charlie Miller, Lesa (Whitmer) & Don Harper, Torrie (Whitmer) & Ron Hays, Amy (Whitmer) & Brian Maus, DeAnn (Whitmer) Smothers, Jared York Monroe and Shan Matthew & Ashley Monroe; nine great-grandchildren, Norah Monroe, Justin Miller, Travis Miller, Devan Fuller, Whitney Harper, Tanner Hays, Thaddeus Hays, Ashley Armstrong, Courtney Tolliver; and five great-great-grandchildren, Grace, Phoebe, Peyton, Lorelai and Gabriel; a sister-in-law, Virginia Herr and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Those preceding Mildred in death is her husband Carl, a daughter, Imogene Marie York, a son-in-law, Mac Whitmer, five sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn (Herr) & Harold Stoltz, Mary E. (Herr) & Chuck Camp, Viola (Yager) & Ralph Davis, Lillie (Herr) & Charlie Simons and Anna (Herr) & Lyle Burcham; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry “Bud” Herr, Pete & Avis Yager, Morice, Laney and Annis Yager and George & Opal (York) Yager.
Pastor Hiram Gonzalez will officiate the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
